Hedgehogs

During October and November we are busy as we receive many young underweight hedgehogs.  They need to weigh 600g in order to survive the winter.  These autumn orphans will need to be over wintered until late May when the likelihood of frosts is over before they can be released.

This year we overwintered 24 hedgehogs.  4 of these are disabled (3 legged or visual impairment) and won’t be able to be released back into the wild, they can however be released into safe enclosed gardens (where they can’t get out and foxes can’t get in).

We are always looking for gardens to release hedgehogs into, (safe and general release gardens) please let us know if you think you can help. 01159 305587 or 07773 680 264 or Robinsonartworks@btinternet.com

Safe Garden - Please be aware that you will need to commit to looking after the hedgehog for life and feed on a daily basis.

General Release Garden - We operate a soft release system. You will need to have the hedgehog in a carrier/hutch for 3 days and feed it before opening the door for the hedgehog to be released.  Then continue feeding for a further week or so to help them adjust to finding food for themselves.

We visit all gardens before release to make sure they are suitable for hedgehogs.
